Avana is a trial attorney in the firm’s Litigation Department and she concentrates her practice in the area of professional liability and insurance coverage litigation.  She defends businesses, law firms, business owners, employers, attorneys, brokers and other professionals against allegations of malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract.  She also represents insurers in coverage disputes and litigation, primarily involving commercial general liability policies and professional liability insurance policies.  Avana has successfully defended cases in state court and has successfully argued before the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

In addition to her practice at Peabody & Arnold LLP, Avana serves as President-Elect of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and as a member of the Anti-Defamation League’s Regional Board for New England. She also serves on the board of Pine Street Inn, New England’s largest homeless services organization.

  • Won five-day jury trial and successfully defended against multi-million dollar breach of contract, unjust enrichment and quantum meruit claims
  • Successfully argued and won Massachusetts Appeals Court decision in favor of client in legal malpractice case
  • Successfully argued and won dismissal of complaint in case where trustee brought a legal malpractice claim on a bankruptcy estate’s behalf against the debtor’s former attorney
  • Won one-day bench trial in legal malpractice case
  • Successfully obtained dismissal of complaint in case where owner of residential property brought breach of contract and violation of 93A claims against real estate broker
