Michael’s practice focuses on the defense of healthcare liability and professional liability claims, as well as insurance coverage matters. In the area of healthcare liability, he defends nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, labs, physicians, practice groups, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers. Most of his cases involve significant research into both the underlying medical aspects of each claim and applicable legal precedent. Michael works closely with medical experts to analyze questions of medical causation and to develop sound defenses in each case. He has obtained numerous dismissals and defense verdicts in medical negligence claims involving serious injuries and death.

Michael is also experienced in the defense of complex product liability claims, including representation of a major pharmaceutical company in multi-district litigation involving claims for psychiatric injury and wrongful death. He has represented a wide array of professionals in connection with negligence and malpractice claims including lawyers, real estate agents, insurance agents, architects, and engineers. Additionally, he represents trade associations and non-profit organizations in connection with product liability and antitrust litigation. Michael also maintains an active insurance coverage practice, representing insurers and institutional clients in insurance coverage litigation.

Michael tries cases in state and federal courts primarily in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and handles civil appeals in both the state and federal courts. In addition, he has significant experience representing clients before various administrative agencies, including the Massachusetts Boards of Registration in Medicine and Nursing and Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professionals.
